The last fortnight has seen the release of the new 2017/18 shirts for Scotland’s two Pro14 sides; Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow Warriors.
Edinburgh’s new kit features the traditional black and red colourway, but this year has been mixed with grey hoops. The club have retained the BT Sport sponsor, which is once again displayed on the front of the shirt. Richard Cockerill’s new side will wear the kit for the first time when they take on Sale Sharks at Meggetland on Friday 18th August.
Glasgow have, for the first time, included their official tartan on both home and alternate shirts, in a move reminiscent of the hugely popular Scotland Rugby World Cup 2015 shirt. On the rear, the names of all the club’s centurions is printed in the box where the number goes.
In another first, there will be no sponsor on the front of the replica Warriors shirts for this season. The players will wear one featuring SG Power (Scottish Power basically), the new chest sponsor announced this week and it will be added to the retail shirt for next season.
As ever, there has been fierce debate from either end of the M8 about which one is the nicest, so we did the only thing we could – took a poll on social media!
On Twitter, it was a landslide victory for Glasgow Warriors, 77% of the 338 votes cast going to the side from the west.
Over on Facebook though, it was a much tighter affair, 174 – 169 in favour of the Myreside men!
But which one do you prefer? Let us know in the comments section below.
Both sides will be wearing their new kit throughout the 2017/18 season, both in the inaugural Pro14, and in their respective European campaigns.
Only time will tell which of the 2 teams will have the more successful year, but the introduction of the 2 South African teams is sure to bring some new excitement to the Pro14. Roll on the start of September and the opening weekend!

The blue and black striped Glasgow training top is also pretty nifty. I think the plain Glasgow home top will appeal more to fans than it will once sponsor logo gets added….a bit of an All Black homage to Dave Rennie maybe??
Edinburgh kit is probably their best since the magners league days (no, not that one). I’ve seen some postings of Motherwell footy team having the same top as their away kit mind you, which is a bit weird.
Glasgow kit looked good until they plastered a manky green rectangle on it. Burn it now.
Edinburgh kit is decent.
