Perhaps not the right thread but some interesting picks by our friend Eddie the Eagle. Dingwall and Arundell in the England training squad – could this be Eddie’s revenge for Redpath & Vellacott or will they remain uncapped for Toony to swoop down and deny England – albeit by potentially just a few years these days – by giving them a solitary cap following a 5 minute cameo?
This is a training squad so we’ll see if either makes the cut for the full tour. It would be unfortunate if Eddie did cap and drop arundell as nothing is more likely to make him turn his back on the country he clearly wants to represent than feeling used unfairly – he’s only 19 and could easily have a test career with wales or Scotland after a stand down period and make the RWC 2027.
Dingwall obviously sees there is a dearth of centres in engand and has set his ambition to play for them. I suspect he might change his mind after the World Cup if, as is likely, he doesn’t make the World Cup squad and doesn’t get selected by englands next coach. But would he be much more likely to enjoy a test career with Scotland? I’m not sure, his friend and colleague Rory Hutchison has hardly had a plethora of opportunities.
