Vern Cotter has named a strong side to face Argentina at Murrayfield on Saturday evening.

The backs are unchanged saved for Tommy Seymour who sat out the last one for personal reasons, so Tim Visser drops to the bench.

Up front, Ross Ford has had his 100 caps so Fraser Brown moves up a step to see what he can offer while Ford waits on the bench. Concussion forces Richie Gray’s withdrawl so what is probably Vern’s ideal pairing of his admired Gilchrist and Jonny Gray gets a first start together in the boilerhouse.

In the back row, John Barclay moves to Number 8 and Magnus Bradbury is handed the start at blindside ahead of Cornell du Preez. It has been announced that John Hardie will be out for up to 8 weeks with an ankle sprain – he has already had the operation on it.

On the bench depth is boosted by the changes to the main XV but Ryan Wilson, rather than du Preez, covers the back row and Alex Allan adds further youth to the propping contingent ahead of Gordon Reid who misses out entirely.
