Hi, I just wanted to get in touch to balance up your rant about Dalkeith RFC with the other side of the story.
Firstly, had this been a development game at ‘the lowest level of Scottish rugby’ the ineligible players would have been a non-issue. You did not mention though that this match was a decider as to which team would make it to the National Bowl final – perhaps you see this as insignificant but we do not.
On viewing your team sheet on the Sunday morning the question was asked to the SRU as to whether your dual registered players were eligible – the reply that 3 were and 2 were not has nothing to do with Dalkeith RFC – we do not make the competition rules. After several occasions over the years of unfavourable outcomes for our club due to ineligible players we now check team sheets for significant matches as a matter of routine.
You mention Fraserburgh unfortunately losing players to injury and Dalkeith taking advantage of this by scoring several tries. If you remember correctly Dalkeith matched your player numbers throughout the game except for the spell where you had a player yellow carded. as for our tries being scored by Watsonians players, that is just plain wrong. We have had one dual registered Watsonians player this whole season – she was front row cover in the match and wasn’t even on the pitch until the second half and definitely did not score.
Dalkeith Ladies is a new team of predominantly brand new players, in our first season of the aspiring league/national bowl. We have invested a great deal of time and effort into growing from nothing to a squad of 25, so to be accused of ‘taking advantage’ of any team or stifling the growth of women’s rugby is a personal insult to me. The only person/persons responsible for your players not getting to play is whoever put them on the team sheet.
Kind regards
Lynsay
