Pigbarians Tickled Pink Over Relaunch

Geoff Cross and Allan Jacobsen

Invitational charity rugby team, the Pigbarians RFC, are delighted to announce an official re-launch event on the back pitches of Murrayfield on Thursday 19th April 2012 at 7pm. The event will take the form of a small Sevens tournament including senior teams from Murrayfield Wanderers, The British Army and, of course, The Pigbarians themselves.

Formed in 2007 by Jimmy ‘The Pig’ Michie, ‘The Pigs’ have competed successfully in many tournaments and charity games across Scotland have seen the likes of ex-Scotland International and British Lion Scott Hastings, Ben Fisher, Rory Couper (both Boroughmuir), Max Learmonth (Heriots) Richie Maxton (Hamilton) Ben Di Rollo (Watsonians) and Willy Lipp (London Scottish) representing the infamous pink, white and black colours.

The past 12 months have seen a new team take over the rugby side of the Pigs to allow Jimmy ‘The Pig’ Michie to concentrate solely on the Dreamz4u charity. Bruce Aitchison and James ‘Cakes’ Robertson have joined from from Murrayfield Wanderers and with Freddie Main from Watsonians and Brodie Smithers from Langholm RFC they set about re-vamping the whole set-up of the side. This fresh impetus has seen the Pigs officially registering with the SRU, bringing on-board new players & fixtures and a complete re-brand of both the logo and the playing kits.

New Honorary Presidents have also joined the club in the formidable shapes of Scotland Internationalists Kelly Brown (Saracens), Ally Hogg (Newcastle Falcons), Allan Jacobsen and Geoff Cross (Edinburgh).

Speaking ahead of the re-launch Geoff Cross was keen to lend his weight to the cause “The Pigbarians provide an excellent opportunity to raise both awareness and funds for the children’s charity Dreamz4U and myself and Allan are both delighted to support the team in any way we can.”

It is a sentiment that is also echoed by Pigs Head Coach Bruce Aitchison “Our focus will always be raising as much awareness and funds for the charity and we are very happy that by putting our collective heads together and pulling a few favours that we can use rugby as a means to help Dreamz4U”

With a host of upcoming fixtures, new sponsors, kit and logo and a new team behind them, The Pigabrians RFC will use the re-launch event on 19th April 2012 to kick-start the growth of both the Pigbarins RFC and awareness of the charity Dreamz4U.
