Club International, 2011 Predictions and A New Prize!

The weather continues to taunt us all. Edinburgh played a game in the twilight zone; club games are piling up for the new year; and social networking sites have become painfully, boringly predictable. “Awww I hate this snow!” Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz……..

However, there is a shining light in the distance for fans of Scottish Club rugby. The initial squad for the Scottish Club International has been named and there is a game scheduled for a lot of that squad to have a run-out, under the banner of the Co-Optimists, against Premier B side Edinburgh Accies at Raeburn Place on Tuesday, December 28 at 2pm.

Co-optimists squad:

Backs:
Tom Brown, Dougie Fife, Richard Snedden, Matt Scott (all Currie), Grant Anderson, Ross Curle (both Ayr), Craig Gossman, Dean Kelbrick (both Glasgow Hawks), Scott Wight, Fraser Thomson (both Melrose), Andy Dymock (Dundee HSFP)

Forwards:
John Dalziel (Melrose), Ross Weston, Ally Hamilton, Finlay Gillies (all Currie), Robbie Colhoun, Andy Dunlop, Gordon Reid (all Ayr), Danny Levison, Alan Brown (both Dundee HSFP), Scott Burnett, Alan Dymock (both Heriot’s), Nick Campbell, Eric Milligan (both Glasgow Hawks), Grant Gilchrist (Stirling County).

Apart from this there isn’t much to look forward to ‘til 2011…

*Here are my predictions for things that WON’T happen in 2011:

  • Euan Murray signs for a Scottish pro side.
  • England heed the thrashing they took from South Africa and don’t monstrously talk themselves up in the weeks leading up to the 6N.
  • Edinburgh recognise the step up in performance against Castres and opt to play all home game in a stadium with no atmosphere (ohhhh, wait…..)
  • Glasgow make it back from France
  • A rugby player is up for Sports Personality of the Year
  • Gavin Henson isn’t in the news every second day telling of how he wants to play for Wales and in the World Cup.
  • Andy Robinson does a front page shoot for GQ.
  • I lose the bet with my brothers, and have to ‘Take One for the Team’ on the pitch at Mayfield

*Annnnnd since we are mentioning Mayfield, the Scottish Rugby Blog competition just got interesting! Dundee HSFP RFC have chosen to throw in a free copy of their calendar along with IRB World Rugby Yearbook. Check out the calendar here and then hurriedly enter the competition HERE!
