Free Agent: Rory Lamont

As of Friday Scotland utility back Rory Lamont was released from his French club Toulon by mutual consent. He was citing lack of game time whilst his employers claimed he had distanced himself from the rest of the squad and was just not interacting.

It appears that Lamont enjoyed himself very little while he was in France. When the news broke of his release he said on Twitter: “I want to play for Scotland and I have to find a club where I can play more rugby – and I promise it will not be in France!

Contracting But Not Shrivelling

If you are on social networking sites your timeline will currently be clogged. In fact plugged or dammed are probably more fitting descriptions. Everyone is bleating about the weather. Somehow it has come to everyone’s attention that we are entering Scotland’s lengthy rainy season and we are ready to whinge about it as much as possible.

It seems, though, that those at EH12 have been saving for these rainy days. We’ve been alerted to something else via the social sites. It appears that now the World Cup is over we have entered Contract Renegotiation Season.

The New Scotland Rugby Kit 2011

This week Canterbury (of New Zealand and no longer the Northern Hemisphere) and Scotland launched the new rugby kit that will see our national team through the upcoming World Cup, and beyond. Reaction to it so far seems to be mixed (check out our FB poll to let us know what you think), so I thought I would take a look…

World Cup Squad Preview: Forwards

As Rory has chosen to focus on the backs he has left me with the slightly easier task of looking at the forwards.

The reason this is easier is because Andy Robinson has a pretty samey starting pack and, barring injury, I can’t imagine it will change too much for the first game in the World Cup. So this means the warm-up games against Ireland and Italy will help pick a bench, and the training sessions before hand are hugely important for individuals.

So who is a dead cert to go, and who “could do better”?

Don’t You, Forget About Milk(/Glasgow)

Yup, amidst all the Six Nations excitement there is still some Magners League action on this weekend. Usually this is the point where the Scottish teams take a dip with all our top guys on International/A-Team duty, but with two A games already out of the way and no official A Six Nations, this weekend a few of the boys have been released back to their club allowing Sean Lineen to field a decent side including form openside Rob Harley, Johnnie Beattie and the returning Duncan Weir. Also involved will be longtime Glasgow servant Bernie Stortoni who is departing at the end of the season and new face Tom Ryder, who while still technically signed to Saracens will be eligible to play until the end of the season at which point he will join Glasgow full time.

Glasgow Team to face Cardiff: Stortoni; O’Hare, Aramburu, Murchie, Van Der Merwe; Weir, Gregor (capt), Grant, Thomson, Kalman, Muldowney, Ryder, Harley, Forrester, Beattie

This game will be shown on BBC Wales, live from Firhill, kick off 1935.

Scotland Training Squad for Six Nations

Robbo has done what most of us hoped he would and named Rob Harley in his training squad for the Six Nations, at the same time calling up Jack Cuthbert and Jon Welsh from the A squad. So congratulations to them. Details of both squads of players can be found after the jump.
