London Scottish have completed the signing of Namibian international Tijuee Uanavi from Glasgow Warriors.

Standing tall at  6ft 7′, Exiles fans can be sure to see the versatile forward causing havoc in the lineout in the upcoming Championship campaign.

Despite failing to make a real impact in Glasgow, making just 5 appearances for the Pro12 outfit since arriving in 2016, the 26 year old still brings a wealth of experience having played for Brive in the Top 14 and South African Super Rugby side The Sharks.

He has also been capped 15 times for Namibia, appearing for his country at the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

Speaking to the club website, Uanavi said;

“I’m really looking forward to heading to London and linking up with London Scottish ahead of the new season. The new coaches are ambitious and the squad looks strong, so I’m excited to test myself in the Championship because it seems to get more competitive each year.”

Director of Rugby Dave Morris added;

“We are delighted to welcome Tjiuee to London Scottish. Having been part of Glasgow Warriors squad last season I’m sure Tjiuee has a warmth for Scotland and its people. I spoke at length to his Glasgow Warriors team mate Alex Allan whom I coached at Loughborough University and liked what I heard about him as a player and a person.”

“This was backed up watching his footage. He will bring tremendous athleticism to the second row which will really show in the lineout and around the field. He will arrive battle hardened after playing international rugby for Namibia over the summer.”

  1. Really excellent signing – looking forward to seeing him, and hearing his name pronounced by stadium announcers !
    But how ironic that at the time the SRU seem to be happy to plough money and staff ( Murchie for one ) into the lower echelons of rugby in the south of France, their relationship with LS appears to be completely dead in the water ?
    Will be delighted to be proven wrong

    1. LS had a change of ownership at the end of last year which might have led to a different relationship with the SRU. But perhaps one of the two ‘other’ or so far unnamed, semi pro teams could end up being the boys from London?

      1. Not quite, ownership no difference, at least not in the public domain.
        Different Leadership certainly. Dodson said the deal was one year only.
        Now LS are regrouping, going partly part time, like others in the English Championship. I suspect we will see loans coming down if there’s a run of injuries.

        Right now I see no immediate fit with SRU and LS, sideline stuff, yes of course.

        So NVS, no other option in London other than LS, never mind the English angle.

  2. Just checked the LS website. Squad strength is only 29, 31 if we count the guys who are doubling up on the coaching front. I know there’s belt tightening going on, but that’s guy thin.

  3. Better make it 30. Phil Sharpe doesn’t appear in the squad, but Dan George does. We’ll see anyway.

    1. Scottish could really have used a replacement fullback for Lydon, a quality, experienced, ex PRO12 player with a Scottish background, who could have doubled up with coaching duties . . . C’est la vie.

      1. Another signing today, Nick Scott, a winger, alas not a full back. Lydon will be a big loss, no question. Just surprised he didn’t go up a level.
